How to Enjoy New Orleans during the Essence Music Festival

Posted by Dana

The July 4th weekend is one of my favorite times of the year because I make my annual trip to New Orleans for the Essence Music Festival. It’s a weekend filled with great music, food, and laid back fun.

If you haven’t experienced EMF, as the pros refer to it, and this is your first time out, I’ve provided five tips for you in the video.

Let me know if you have any tips to add, and more importantly how you are enjoying New Orleans so far!

  • I went to Essence a few years ago & did not enjoy the experience. But I loved your tips. All are true. I would suggest not staying in a hotel on Canal. And, focus your partying / hanging out to before the concerts. Also if you’ve visited New Orleans at any other time of the year, be prepared for the fact that a lot of popular restaurants & businesses close early during EMF.

    • Hi SR, navigating New Orleans can be tricky during EMF. The past few years we’ve made our home base at the Hilton Garden Inn on St. Peter’s St. It’s close enough to everything but not in the center of all the energy.

I also suggest to folks to enjoy the day parties. There are plenty of them, and it’s easy to party in the afternoon then transition to the concerts afterwards.

      Thanks for your comment!
